In many of my dreams/nightmares, I am at school, usually returning to finish school. This may very well be because in real life, I never finished school.

Also of note, is that many of my dreams are repeats of earlier dreams, slightly updated to fit my current life. I don't know whether this applies to everyone, but most of my dreams are silent, with myself seemingly fully aware that I'm in a dream, giving narration, along with very rare occasional dialog. Also, I don't know if this is common, but my face is pretty much never shown in my dreams.

This isn't uncommon, Matthew. Many people dream about unresolved issues, like finishing school, going back to a job that abruptly ended, dreaming of relationships that ended but the issues were never resolved.

It's your subconscious (sp?) looking for closure. I often dream about my highschool best friend, and I'm always trying to talk to her as she turns and walks away from me. Our friendship ended abruptly due to a misunderstanding, and in my dreams I'm always trying to explain things to her, but she never listens. In my dreams, she hangs out with me until I start talking about our argument, then she leaves without listening to me. That was almost 30 years ago, but I still dream it... especially if something else has upset me.

Don't feel bad about not finishing school. I waited until I was 20 to finish high school. Went back to college at 45 to get my degree. My Grandmother finished here Master Gardener Degree when she was 70. I know you have had some difficulties in your life, but all of us have. Some much worse than yours. You are fortunate enough to live in the time of the internet. There are so many online educational options open to you (not even computers in my school when I was a kid). Hang in there! :) It's never too late.

Yeah, Matthew, you just need to find some sort of closure, something that will make that part of your life okay in your sub-conscious. Or, just deal with having the dream. That's what I've done, since there's no way my old friend will talk to me so I'll have closure.

Couchpotato is so right! There are many people in this world who would love to trade problems with us. Life is very very good if you let it be good!

yes, listen to couchpotato...

btw: noisecollector has me beat by five years or so but I am enrolling in summer classes to add to my time...

just thinking of those pre-net days where a day or two in the right library might give you the same info you can receive now in seconds...

it simply boggles the mind to have seen both sides and lived through the changes...
